The 20th century was not only an eventful period in the historical space, but medical(psychopharmacology) science and the social disciplines also entered a more intensive development path, the dawn and institutionalization of psychology are also linked to this period. connected to this period, the work of Sándor Ferenczy, Ferenc Mérei, Ferenc Szakács, Lipót Szondi, and Pál Ranschburg determined the most important psychological trends and thinking in Hungary before the turn of the century. Domestic workshops were also established in the discursive fields of medicine and psychology. The situation of mental patients was partly changed by the new possibilities of biological psychiatry and the appearance of more modern first-generation antipsychotics. For a while, the main site of care organization remained the psychiatric institution, which provided security, but due to the consistent application of internal structures and old "methods", it was still an environment that was often not fair and safe in terms of human rights before the turn of the century. The modernization of psychopharmaceuticals and the appearance of drugs with a more ideal side effect profile led to the development of the remaining abilities of the individual (this also became the focus of therapy) and led to neuromedicine and mental medicine, and later psychiatry, which became an independent specialty. The rediscovery of man and his environment opened the way to the humanization of total institutions, thus the integration of social therapy classes, the milieu therapy approach, the therapeutic community, and psychotherapy regime into the daily life of institutional systems.
