The prevalence of food allergy is increasing worldwide, especially in children. Among allergic reactions to food, lgE-based (type l) reactions typically involve multiple organs with typical clinical symptoms. This should be considered as the basis of the diagnostic process. Classic diagnostic tools for lgE-based food allergy, such as skin prick testing and allergen-specific serum lgE determination, have recently been overshadowed by molecular (component based, CRD) diagnostics. Molecular lgE-based laboratory testing is based on the principles of traditional lgE testing, but uses molecular allergen reagents that provide higher sensitivity and more reliable diagnostic measurements than the classical tests. The advantages of molecular (or component-based) specific lgE diagnostics can be exploited in several areas ol allergology. ln addition to more elfective detection ol anaphylactogenic food allergens from early childhood, it can detect allergen cross-reactions caused mainly by similarities between airborne and food allergens. CRD can also provide a more accurate diagnosis of idiopathic anaphylaxis. lmproving diagnostic accuracy, such as avoiding unnecessary diets and implementing appropriate and potentially elfective therapies, can significantly improve the quality of life for patients with allergies.  Kulcsszavak: allergy diagnostics, component-based diagnostics, food allergens
