The field of psychiatry has undergone profound transformations from ancient times to the present day, reflecting the evolving understanding of mental illnesses. This literature review, titled "Unraveling the Psyche: Historical Milestones in Psychiatry," examines pivotal developments that have shaped psychiatric practice and theory. Starting with ancient and medieval aspects, we trace the shift towards scientific approaches in the 17th to 19th centuries, the revolutionary impact of psychoanalysis in the early 20th century, the rise of psychopharmacology in the mid-20th century, and contemporary advancements and challenges in this field. Through this historical lens, we gain insights into the dynamic and multifaceted nature of psychiatry, underscoring the ongoing quest to unravel the complexities of the human mind.
