0ur retrospective study aimed to analyze the cases of complicated pneumonia in children, which showed a significant increase in our hospital between September 2023 and March 2024. We used our hospital's internal lT system (Hospitaly) for data collection, while other documentation was obtained lrom the Hungarian Electronic Health Service System (EESZT). The data show that our medical team treated 16 children with pleuropneumonia during the seven-month period. This is a significant increase from the average of 6-7 patients with this diagnosis per year in previous years. ln our pediatric intensive care unit, we treated 14 patients who required respiratory support and/or chest drainage. Nine children underwent intrapleural fibrinolysis. Three children were admitted for severe sepsis, while one child was treated for extensive left-sided necrotizing pneumonia. One of our patients presented to the emergency department with symptoms of fulminant sepsis and died five hours later. Only two children had received oral antibiotic therapy prior to admission. Neither had received an influenza vaccination. ln conclusion, early broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy, together with chest drainage and librinolysis il necessary, can effectively treat chest complications, leading to satislactory resolution and complete recovery in most cases. lt would be beneficial to identify the pathogens in order to select an appropriate antibiotic treatment. lt is essential to increase influenza vaccination in the pediatric population.  Kulcsszavak: pneumonia, pleuropneumonia, complicated community-acquired pneumonia, pleural effusion, pediatric
