Gestational diabetes is a metabolic disorder that is one of the most common diseases of pregnant women. Observations suggest that its prevalence is increasing with weight and obesity as a risk factors. Diabetes mellitus detected and cared for early during the pregnancy leads to reduction of maternal and foetal complications. Pregnant women are at increased risk of excess weight gain, preeclampsia, caesarean section, and developing type 2 diabetes with cardiovascular diseases.
