The first notes about gingival deseases were made around 1500 B.C. in Papyrus Ebers in Egypt and Mesopotamia. Ever since the importance of the supporting tissue of the teeth is exponentially increasing. Especially in implant dentistry, it is not just a matter of aesthetics but also plays a main roll in functionality. The nomenclature and definitions of periodontal surgeries has enormously changed in the past decades.
