The osteoarthritis is a widespread contemporary disease that affects over 250 million people in the world. The history of the osteoathritis looks back to the paleolitic times. Researchers found signs related to the obvious arthritis from fossiles of dinousauruses to the Neanderthal skeletons. There were many medical reports in the Antiquity and Medieval Ages that show that this disease was realized continuosly in the historic times, however it is unclear if it was identified exactly, which was not a special concern that time. The Modern Age was a breakthrough in the history of osteortarthritis. Physicians strived to describe it exactly and started to examine its pathophysiology and separated it from other clinically similar joint diseases. The treatment of the osteoarthritis is quite complex and it had changed a lot through ages mentioned above. Concoctions taken over from the Antiquity were used as pain relief even in the Medieval Ages. Later on practice of invasive treatment was developed with a simple needle to open the joint for draining the suppuration ("pus bonum et laudabile" goes back to Galen), which was completed by injecting specific solutions in the joint's capsule. This intraarticular treatment combines the advantages of both parenteral drug and surgical therapy and eliminates their disadvantages. However, scientists are experiencing continuosly to find the best method and the best material of the intraarticular treatment.  Kulcsszavak: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, intraartikuláris terápia, ízületi gyulladás
